Barcelona suffer major blow ahead Rayo clash

FC Barcelona have been dealt a major blow ahead of Sunday's La Liga fixture against visiting Rayo Vallecano following the injury to  Sergio Busquets.

The Spanish international got injured in the 39th minute in the build up to Villarreal’s equalizer when he clashed with Pina as they both challenged for a ball in midfield. Busquets was stretchered off and replaced by Mathieu.

A statement on the club's official website on Thursday confirmed that the 26-year old midfielder's ankle injury has ruled  him out of Sunday's game.

“Club doctors confirmed that Sergio Busquets’ ankle injury picked up in the game against Villarreal on Wednesday will rule him out of this Sunday’s league clash with Rayo at the Camp Nou and that his availability beyond that will be carefully monitored”. The statement read.

After beating Villarreal 6-2 on aggregate, FC Barcelona are through to the final of the Spanish Cup for the fifth time in seven years. The final will be played on May 30 against Athletic Bilbao.
